What Is Oishii Japan Food?
Oishii Japan Food is a guide to Japan’s hidden culinary gems — the restaurants, ramen shops, izakaya, and sushi counters that Japan’s own food community keeps returning to, but rarely appear on the usual tourist lists.
We don’t rank by review scores. Instead, we use our own BUZZ SCORE system, which measures how much genuine heat a restaurant generates across Japanese food communities: the depth of expert reviews, how often locals mention going back, and how long the word-of-mouth has persisted over time. If a place scores high, it means real food people in Japan keep talking about it — not just tourists passing through.
Who Is This For?
This site is for visitors to Japan who want to eat where the locals eat. Not the places on every travel blog. Not the spots that made it onto multilingual restaurant apps. The places that food-obsessed Japanese people protect as their own.
What You’ll Find Here
Each article covers a handful of restaurants in a specific Tokyo neighbourhood or Japanese city. Every shop listing includes a Google Maps embed so you can navigate straight there from your phone, along with links to the restaurant’s official site and Japanese review pages for further research.
We don’t use stock photos or AI-generated images. What you see is what’s actually there.
A Note on Sources
Our research draws on Japanese-language food communities: specialist blogs, food-focused social media, review platforms, and the accumulated knowledge of people who eat out in Japan obsessively. We read in Japanese so you don’t have to.
